A1 · Lesson 30 · Getting by
Asking for help
Ask a stranger for help, say you're lost and ask them to say it again.
Grammar
Kunt u mij…? and nog een keer
- Polite question: Kunt u + the rest + infinitive at the end: Kunt u mij helpen? Kunt u dat uitleggen? Kunt u mij de weg wijzen?
- With a question word, kan ik comes straight after it and the infinitive still goes last: Waar kan ik de wc vinden?
- Nog een keer (or nog eens) = one more time, the everyday way to ask for a repeat: Kunt u dat nog een keer zeggen? Opnieuw = again, from the start: Ik begin opnieuw.
- Ik ben verdwaald = I'm lost (I don't know where I am). Kwijt = lost, missing (a thing): Ik ben mijn tas kwijt. You can also say Ik ben de weg kwijt.
