A1 · Lesson 39 · Getting ready
Head & face
Name the parts of your face and head — and make their plurals.
Grammar
Plurals: keep the sound
- Most nouns add -en: de wang → de wangen.
- Short vowel? Double the consonant, so the vowel stays short: de lip → de lippen, de kin → de kinnen.
- Long vowel written double (oo, aa, ee, uu)? Write it single: het oor → de oren, het oog → de ogen.
- s often becomes z, and f becomes v: de neus → de neuzen.
- Nouns ending in -er or -el usually just add -s: de schouder → de schouders. All plurals take de.
