Run, jump, climb
Verbs for moving — and saying what you can and can't do.
Grammar
Kunnen + infinitive at the end
- Kunnen = can: ik kan, jij kunt (kan), hij/zij kan, wij/jullie/zij kunnen.
- The second verb goes to the end, as an infinitive: Ik kan hard rennen. Kun jij in een boom klimmen?
- Negative: niet comes before the infinitive: Mijn zoon kan nog niet zwemmen.
- Without kunnen, use the normal present: ik ren, jij rent, hij springt, wij vallen — a double consonant becomes single in the ik-form.
| subject | kunnen | … | infinitive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ik | kan | hard | rennen. |
| Jij | kunt | hoog | springen. |
