Asking questions
Ask who, what, where, when, why and how — and simple yes/no questions.
Grammar
Word order in questions
- Yes/no questions start with the verb: Woon je hier? Spreekt u Engels? Heb je een fiets?
- After the verb, jij / je makes the verb lose its -t: jij woont → Woon jij hier? jij werkt → Waar werk je? With u and hij the -t stays: Woont u hier?
- Question word first, then verb, then subject: Waar woon je? Wanneer begint de les?
- welk goes with singular het-words, welke with de-words and plurals: welk huis, welke straat, welke boeken. Wat voor asks “what kind of”: Wat voor auto heb je?

| Jij woont hier. | Woon jij hier? |
