A1 · Lesson 27 · Home, tech & days out
Phones & computers
Talk about laptops, wifi, passwords and apps — and say when something doesn't work.
Grammar
English verbs, Dutch endings
- Dutch borrows many English verbs but conjugates them the Dutch way: downloaden → ik download, hij downloadt; typen → ik typ, hij typt.
- The participle follows the normal rules: ik heb gedownload (stem ends in -d, so no extra -d), ik heb getypt, ik heb geappt (p is in ’t kofschip → -t).
- Werken also means “to work / function” for machines: De wifi werkt niet. In speech you often hear Het doet het niet. (It isn't working.)
- Aanzetten (to switch on) and uitzetten (to switch off) are separable: Ik zet de laptop aan.
| infinitive | hij / zij | perfect |
|---|---|---|
| downloaden | downloadt | heeft gedownload |
| typen | typt | heeft getypt |
| appen | appt | heeft geappt |
| aanzetten | zet … aan | heeft aangezet |
