Grammar
Money and numbers
- Dutch writes a comma for decimals and a point for thousands: € 12,50, € 1.250,00.
- Say the euros, then the cents — euro stays singular: € 12,50 = twaalf euro vijftig, € 3,95 = drie euro vijfennegentig. Under a euro: € 0,80 = tachtig cent.
- You pay for something with betalen voor: Ik heb twintig euro voor de kaartjes betaald.
- De rekening has two meanings: the bill in a restaurant and your bank account: Mag ik de rekening? / Ik wil een rekening openen.
