A2 · Lesson 67 · Getting things done
Cooking
Follow a recipe and tell someone what to do in the kitchen.
Grammar
The imperative
- For an instruction use the stem of the verb (the ik-form), verb first: Snijd de ui. Doe het in de pan. Roer goed.
- Separable verbs split: toevoegen → Voeg het zout toe. voorverwarmen → Verwarm de oven voor.
- To be polite, add -t and u: Neemt u een stoel. Komt u binnen.
- Recipes often use the infinitive at the end instead: De ui fijnsnijden. Tien minuten laten koken.
