Compound nouns

• A compound noun takes the article of its last part: het ziekenhuis because het huis; de voordeur because de deur.
• The first part doesn't matter: de telefoon + het nummer → het telefoonnummer; het huis + de arts → de huisarts.
• So once you know a short word, you know many long ones: het bad → het zwembad; het plan → het reisplan.
• As always, the plural is de: de zwembaden, de telefoonnummers.
