Als-clauses: if and when

Als means “if” or “when(ever)”. In the als-clause the verb goes to the end: als je elke maand spaart.
When the als-clause comes first, the main clause starts with its verb: Als je elke maand spaart, heb je straks genoeg.
When the main clause comes first, it keeps normal word order: Je hebt straks genoeg als je elke maand spaart.
Separable verbs join up at the end of the als-clause: Als je minder uitgeeft, kun je meer sparen.

Als ik salaris krijg, zet ik geld opzij.	Ik zet geld opzij als ik salaris krijg.
Als je minder uitgeeft, kun je meer sparen.	Je kunt meer sparen als je minder uitgeeft.
