A2 · Lesson 125 · Money & community
Volunteering
Talk about volunteer work and explain why you do it.
Grammar
Omdat vs want
- Want and omdat both mean “because”, but the word order is different.
- After want you keep normal word order (verb second): Ik help mee, want ik vind het leuk.
- After omdat the verb goes to the end: Ik help mee omdat ik het leuk vind.
- An omdat-clause can come first; the main clause then starts with its verb: Omdat ik tijd heb, help ik mee. A want-clause can't come first.
- To answer Waarom…? on its own, use omdat: Waarom doe je dat? — Omdat ik mensen wil helpen.
