Signposting: word order in a talk

• Words like eerst, daarna, vervolgens, tot slot take the first position, so the verb comes next: Eerst vertel ik iets over ons bedrijf. Tot slot wil ik u bedanken.
• A subclause in first position counts as one element, so the main verb follows right after the comma: Als er vragen zijn, kunt u die aan het eind stellen. Zoals u op deze dia ziet, stijgt de omzet.
• Useful verbs with prepositions: ingaan op (to go into), stilstaan bij (to dwell on): Daarna ga ik in op de resultaten.
• Start with In deze presentatie wil ik… and end with Zijn er nog vragen?
