AI in the workplace
Discuss automation, chatbots and the future of work, and express how likely something is with modal verbs.
Grammar
Modal verbs of probability
- Moeten can express a logical conclusion (must be): Dat moet een fout in het systeem zijn.
- Zullen + wel = probably / I suppose: Dat zal wel door de nieuwe software komen. Kunnen = possible; zou kunnen is more tentative: AI kan fouten maken. Dat zou best kunnen. (That may well be.)
- Niet kunnen = can't be: Dat kan niet kloppen. (That can't be right.)
- About the past, add hebben/zijn + participle: Het systeem moet een fout hebben gemaakt. Hij kan het bericht gemist hebben. Compare had … kunnen, which means something was possible but didn't happen: Dat had de chatbot kunnen weten.
