European Union institutions

Understand how the EU makes laws — Commission, Parliament and Council — and use the fixed prepositions of institutional language.

Grammar

Fixed prepositions in institutional language

  • Many verbs in politics and law have a fixed preposition: stemmen over (vote on), stemmen voor / tegen, instemmen met (agree to), van toepassing zijn op (apply to), toezien op (supervise / make sure), besluiten tot (decide on a measure).
