Conjunctions of time: nu, zodra, totdat, telkens als

• Nu as a conjunction means “now that” and introduces a new situation: Nu steeds meer mensen hun nieuws via sociale media krijgen, groeit de invloed van algoritmes.
• Zodra = as soon as; totdat / tot = until; voordat = before; sinds = since (time only): Zodra een bericht viraal gaat, is het moeilijk te corrigeren. Het bericht werd gedeeld totdat iemand ontdekte dat het nep was.
• Telkens als / telkens wanneer / elke keer dat = whenever: Telkens als er verkiezingen zijn, duiken er nepprofielen op.
• Sinds is only about time. For “since” meaning “because”, use aangezien or omdat: Aangezien het platform niets doet, grijpt de overheid in.
• All of these send the verb to the end; if the subclause comes first, the main clause starts with its verb: Zodra ik zo'n bericht zie, controleer ik de bron.
