Grammar
Trends and proportions
- Steeds + comparative = more and more / …er and …er: Het wordt steeds drukker in de binnenstad. Steeds meer toeristen kiezen voor een stedentrip. Steeds minder bewoners kunnen er wonen. Informal alternatives: almaar and hoe langer hoe + comparative.
- Hoe + comparative …, hoe + comparative … = the more …, the more …. Both halves normally have the verb at the end: Hoe eerder je boekt, hoe goedkoper het is. In the second half, inversion (hoe goedkoper is het) is also heard; the first half always has the verb at the end.
