Minutes & reports
Write and read Dutch notulen: the present-tense report, neutral reporting verbs and the action list.
Grammar
The style of Dutch notulen
- Dutch minutes are usually written in the present tense, even though the meeting is over: De voorzitter opent de vergadering om 19.30 uur. Mevrouw Smit merkt op dat de kosten zijn gestegen.
- Speakers are reported with neutral verbs + dat: opmerken, meedelen, toelichten, voorstellen, toezeggen. These are separable, so they split in a main clause: Jan deelt mee dat …, De penningmeester licht de begroting toe. Toezeggen often takes a te-infinitive: Hij zegt toe het rapport aan te leveren.
- Decisions are recorded impersonally, often starting with the participle: Besloten wordt de contributie te verhogen. (= Er wordt besloten …) De notulen worden ongewijzigd vastgesteld.
- Typical headings: Aanwezig, Afmeldingen, Mededelingen, Vaststellen notulen, Rondvraag, Actiepunten. An action point says who does what by when: Petra stuurt vóór 1 mei de offerte rond.
- De notulen is plural and takes a plural verb: De notulen zijn goedgekeurd. The person who takes them is the notulist; the verb is notuleren.
