Project management
Plan phases, milestones and deliverables, report delays — and look back from a deadline with the future perfect.
Grammar
Looking back from a deadline: the future perfect
- The future perfect (voltooid toekomende tijd) = zullen + participle + hebben/zijn: Eind maart zullen we de eerste fase hebben afgerond. Tegen die tijd zal het team zijn gegroeid.
- In a subclause all verbs cluster at the end; both orders are correct: …dat we de fase eind maart zullen hebben afgerond / afgerond zullen hebben.
- In everyday planning the present perfect often replaces it: Vrijdag heb ik het rapport af. Zodra we de test hebben afgerond, gaan we live.
- Deadline words: uiterlijk (at the latest), vóór (before — the accent marks the stress and is only needed where voor would be ambiguous), per (as of: per 1 juni), binnen (within), tegen (by, around: tegen het eind van de maand).
- Status reports: We liggen op schema. We lopen twee weken achter. We hebben een achterstand opgelopen. Het project loopt uit.
